Jang was born inDaejeon,South Korea. She started playing golf at the age of thirteen. As a teenager she won the 1997 Korea Women&39;s Open and the 1998 Korea Women&39;s Amateur. She attendedJoongbu University. After qualifying for the LPGA Tour at her first attempt, Jang had a successful rookie season in 2000 including a second place finish.
