Cisco®RV042 Dual WAN Port VPN Router（figure 1）It is an advanced connection sharing network solution suitable for meeting the needs of small and medium enterprises. Like all routers, it allows multiple computers in the office to share a public or private network connection. However, the Cisco RV042 through dual WAN ports enables you to use a second connection as a backup to help you stay connected, or can be used to access a second provider to increase available bandwidth and balance traffic.
The Cisco RV042 router also has a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Ethernet switch that can be directly connected to four PCs. You can also connect more hubs and switches to create a network of the required scale.
The VPN function creates an encrypted “tunnel” through the Internet, which is based on IP Security (IPsec) or Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), allowing up to 50 remote offices or business travelers to safely connect to the office network from outside the site . Users connected through the VPN tunnel can connect to the company network, just like in an office building, and can securely access files, emails, and corporate intranets. You can also use the VPN function to securely connect users on the small office network to the company network.
The Cisco RV042 router can be used as a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server and has a powerful Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall to prevent intruders and common Internet attacks from invading your PC. It also supports Trend Micro ProtectLink gateway security services, enabling you to dynamically block unwanted or unsafe URLs and emails. Configuration is easy with a web browser-based configuration utility.
